It was the first night of the 29th annual Bercy Supercross, and like many years before; the racing did not disappoint. Many top American racers have made their way to France for the off season Supercross race and this year was no different with riders like Kyle Chislom, Mike Alessi, Jake Weimer, Eli Tomac and 2010 King of Bercy-Justin Barcia.
With his impressive 450 outdoor run with Factory Honda, defending Bercy champ Justin Barcia was looking for another solid weekend under his belt. Unfortunately for Barcia, a first turn crash would keep the wild child from the top ten. Luckily for his Geico Honda team mate, the night went a little different.
In his first visit to the infamous race, Eli Tomac took the top spot on the podium for the first night of racing. Tomac claimed that the 450 fits his smooth style more than the 250f, and this was easily proven by taking the win in his second 450 race as a professional. Kyle Chislom would take second and Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer would round off the podium. Fellow American Mike Alessi would take 4th (that seems to be his theme all summer) and fan favorite Nick Wey would put in a solid top ten ride.
More racing will take place this weekend, and like legends Bailey, McGrath, and Stanton have done before. Tomac along with the other top riders will battle to take the title “King of Bercy.”
